2024 Barcelona monuments schedules and rates

During holidays and peak season if you want to avoid long queues and not getting your tickets at the entry due to limited capacity which is more and more frequent in the Sagrada Familia, you should buy your tickets in advance.
Most of Barcelona monuments have a website in English where you can buy your tickets before travelling. You just have to print the ticket or save the QR code in your Smartphone.

To help you with this, we publish this list with, schedules, prices and official web-sites of the main Barcelona monuments.

August's temple


This temple was the center of Roman Barcelona, erected on Mount Taber, the highest point in the old city. Here they worshiped Caesar Augustus, the first Roman emperor (63 BC - 14), who ordered the construction of Barcino. Only 4 columns remain, formerly used in the construction of neighboring buildings. One of them is nicknamed the traveling column because in 1879 it was moved and mounted in the plaza del Rey to give it more visibility.

 Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
 Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Barcelona History Museum - MUHBA


The building that serves as the entrance to the museum is a 15th century Gothic-style palace, which was dismantled to avoid its destruction, during the opening of the "Via Layetana" avenue in 1908, and reassembled stone by stone. Once inside, a journey through time begins as you can walk under Plaza del Rey and the surrounding buildings to discover the remains of the Roman and Visigoth city.
Very interesting, well documented (in Spanish, Catalan and English) and surprising by its size.

Visiting hours:

 From Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 7.00p.m.
 Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 8.00p.m.
 Closed Monday.

 Free admission all day on the first Sunday of each month, other sundays from 15h.

Barcelona Marine Museum


Barcelona Marine Museum is housed in large Gothic naves built at the end of the 13th century. It was in these shipyards that the combat galleys of the King of Aragon's fleet were built. In 1423, 12 galleys were built simultaneously, which for the time represented a huge construction site.
This museum relates the history of the navy in Catalonia. The most important piece being a Juan of Austria royal galley reproduction, flagship in the Lepanto Battle, in 1571. With 60 meters long, it was the largest galley in this time. It required 290 rowers and carried 400 sailors and soldiers.
The visit to the museum also allows you to visit the Paillebot Santa Eulalia, a 1919 sailboat, moored in the nearby port, which carried out cabotage and passenger transport.

 December 24th and 31th: from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
 Closed on December 25th and 26th, January 1st and 6th.

Casa Amatller


Magnificent neo-Gothic style building, built in 1898 by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, one of the most renowned architects of the time, author of many residences in Barcelona.
It is a renovation of the building which was located there for Antoni Amatller Costa, a wealthy industrialist who had made his fortune importing and processing chocolate.

Visiting hours:

 From Wednesday to Sunday
 Closed on January 1 and 6, December 24 and 25.
 All visits are guided tours in small groups (max. 12 pers.), each one 30 or 60 minutes.
Price:

 Adults from 17€ (with audioguide).
 Discount for under 30: 10€.
 Children under 7, free.

Casa Batló


Casa Batlló, completed in 1906, is one of Gaudí's most impressive works and a Barcelona icon. Its fantastic facade by its colors and its design, which includes many elements of stone and glass, still arouses many interpretations.
Since 2021 the visit includes an immersive audiovisual show depicts the Antoni Gaudí life and ideas.

Visiting hours:

 Each day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (entrance closes at 8:00 pm).

Casa de les Punxes


Impressive neo-Gothic style building, work of the modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, author of many building in Barcelona including the Casa Amatller. Its name is the "casa Terradas" from the name of the wealthy family who built it, but this building, because of its pointed towers, surprising at the time of its construction, is known by the barcelonians as the "casa de the punxes", the house of thorns or needles. Open to the public since August 2016, visits have been interrupted during the COVID epidemic.

Casa Lléo i Morera


Another impressive building on Paseo de Gracia Avenue, on the same block as casa Battló and casa Amatller. This magnificent modernist-style building was built in 1904 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, another of Barcelona's most famous architects, author of the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Hospital de Sant Pau, among others.

Casa Milà - La Pedrera


La casa Milà, nicknamed la Pedrera (the quarry) by the people of Barcelona who did not appreciate this huge stone building.
Built in 1910, it was the last building built by Gaudi, then at the height of his glory and his genius, before he decided to no longer accept projects and to work only on the construction of the Sagrada Familia.

Visiting hours:

 Everyday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Cathedral


The cathedral was built in the 13th and 15th centuries on an old romanic church, built in turn on a church from the time of the Visigoths which had succeeded an early Christian basilic. The impressive neo-Gothic facade dates back to 1888, when coinciding with the Universal Exhibition, a group of bankers from Barcelona decided to provide the city with a more representative cathedral and financed the rebuilding.

 Weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
 Sunday 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Christopher Columbus Statue Mirador


The project of a Columbus and the discovery of America tribute was launched during the development work on the coast before the Universal Exhibition of 1888. Construction began in 1881, and the 57-meter-high monument contains an elevator that provides access to a watchtower under the statue. The bronze statue is 7 meters high, Columbus supports a nautical chart and indicates the horizon.

 Closed on december 24th, 25th and 26th, and january 1st, 5th and 6th.

MUHBA El Call


This small museum, inaugurated in 2015, is built on the ruins of the house of a Jewish weaver, Yusef Bonhiac, which dates from the 13th and 14th centuries. It allows understand the history of the Jewish community of Barcelona in the Middle Ages.

Opens Wednesday and Friday’s from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Palau de la Música


Work of Lluis Domenech i Montaner architect, it is one of the jewels of modernist architecture. This auditorium, financed by the bourgeoisie of Barcelona, was built for the choir of the Catalan orpheon.
The strength of the building is concentrated in the corner sculpture, by modernist artist Miquel Blay, which resembles the figurehead of a boat. It represents popular song: presided over by San Jordi, we can see bourgeois, workers and children there to show that the palace was for everyone.
The columns of the facade are overlooked by busts of famous composers: Bach, Beethoven, Wagner…

Visiting hours:

 Every day from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. you can visit with an audio guide app to download on your phone. Remember to bring headphones.
 Every day from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. there is also 50 minutes guided tour. Consult their calendar for the visits programmation according to your language.

Palau Güell


Built between 1886 and 1890 by Antoni Gaudí for Eusebi Güell, a wealthy industrialist who was a loyal friend and patron of Gaudí. In 1886 he commissioned him to build an extraordinary building for his family, which represented Gaudi's first major contract.
The interior made by the best craftsmen of the time is impressive by the finesse of the details and the woodwork. On the terrace, Gaudi transformed the chimneys and air ducts into polychrome ceramic sculptures, a first attempt at what he would later do at La Pedrera.

Visiting hours:

 Summer opening hours (April 1st to October 31st): from Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
 Winter opening hours (November 1st to March 31st): from Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
 Closed: Mondays, except public holidays, December 25th and 26th, January 1st and January 16th to 22nd.

Park Güell


The Park Güell project was to build 60 villas scattered in a huge garden and with a breathtaking view of Barcelona and the sea.
Between 1902 and 1910, the surrounding wall, the accesses and the common facilities were built.

Visiting hours:

 Open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The opening and closing time may vary slightly depending on the season.

Price:

 Adults : 10€.
 Retired over 65, handicapped and children under 12: 7€.
 Children under 7: free.

Roman necrópolis


In use from centuries I to III. It was built at one of the gates of the roman fortress as burials inside the city walls was forbidden. 85 graves have been reconstructed and a small museum houses objects found in the graves.

Visiting hours:

 Tuesday and Thursday: from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
 Saturday and Sunday: from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
 Closed on January 1st, may 1st, June 24th and December 25th.

Price:

 Accessing to the tombs is free.
 Visiting the small museum cost 2€, what seems a little bit expensive for just one exhibition room.
The visit is included in the ticket of the Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA).

Sagrada Familia


Icon of Barcelona the Sagrada Familia, an unfinished basilica, Gaudí's last work before his accidental death is an impressive temple in its dimensions and design.
A unique work of art that will take your breath away.

Visiting hours:

 From November to February from 9:00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
 March to October from 9:00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
 April to September from 9:00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.

Santa Maria del Pi basilic


It is one of the most important churches of the Gothic quarter, the old town, located on the "plaza del Pi", the square of the pine, presided over for centuries by an enormous pine where the virgin appeared according to a legend of the Middle Ages.
This 10th century church is representative of Catalan Gothic, very square, simple and uncluttered.
If you visit it is worth climbing to the top of the bell tower to enjoy a fantastic view of the old quarters.

 Closed on January 1st and 6th, May 12th, December 25th and 26th.

From 11 a.m. it is possible to climb a fairly steep staircase to the top of the bell tower, which offers a very beautiful panoramic view of the district.

Santa Mónica Art Center


This former 16th century convent houses an impressive three-storey cultural space which, in its many rooms and its interior patio, allows the organization of artistic displays and free exhibitions.

Visiting hours:

 Sunday and public holidays: from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Synagog


These are the only remains of the five synagogues that existed in the Jewish quarter in the Middle Ages. This was the most important. The preserved part corresponds to the vestibule of the original synagogue, built in the 13th century.
It is possible to visit the two rooms which have been restored and a small museum.

 In summer: (april to october).
  Monday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  Saturday closed, Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
 In winter:
  Monday to Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Virreina Palace


Built for the Marquis of Castellbell, who until 1776 held several positions of responsibility in South America, including that of Viceroy of Peru. He accumulated a great fortune there, and before his return, had this sumptuous palace built in Baroque and Rococo style. He married in 1779, and died in 1982 childless. His wife continued to live in the palace, hence the popular name given to the building: "Palau de la virreina", the palace of the vice-queen…
Bought by Barcelona City Council in 1944, it now houses many free exhibitions, mainly of photographs.

Wax museum


Wax museums nowadays have a bit old-fashioned and dusty side, but some can like…
More than 200 wax figures are exhibited in this beautiful building built in 1867, which was the headquarters of several banks. You can see the bank's original vault, adapted to represent a "heist".
